cheating = bad

Ok I learned my lesson. No more fruits, dairy, no mixed drinks, limit on hard liquor. Dump all bad foods from that house.

Update on foods I made.
meat loaf
(grass fed beef, egg, almond flour, flax seed, cilantro, mushrooms, onions, seasoning)

fajita
(chicken, onions, red peppers, coated and marinated in lemon, lime, parsley, cilantro,  jalapeno, seasoning)

Why I am still trying...

Benefits that I have read and experienced outweighs my desire to quit and chow down on a big piece of sourdough baguette...

Experience
- no more of the "starving" feeling
- my sweet tooth has become very minimal. I am now able to say no to sweets laying around!
- clothes are fitting better even though my lbs have not decreased for a while
- not feeling cold all of the time

Read
- you do not experience the symptoms of being sick. Meaning, you are sick but you dont know it. Explanation below.
- flat abs without a single sit up. (mysterious! but great sounding)
- better cholesterol and blood pressure. (I have no problems here but it's always a good thing to keep them low)

I have been trying to eat much better this week. Making my food and bringing it to lunch. Go me!!!
Yesterday I did go to El Pollo and got a $1 Al Carbon Taco and had the inside of it. As I was having the spoon full... I thought to myself.... hmm... this is so dang good and simple... can I make this at home??? So the project began.

Went to the market and picked up whatever I thought was in the Al Carbon... Chicken, cilantro, onions, lime, and I added green peppers and jalapeno peppers. The end result was very good... I topped them off on cabbage and it was yummy!!! Bit spicy but still very good. I was very happy with it and gave myself a gold star.

Not being sick explanation by Warren Dew:

My question: How does this not feeling sick but being sick thing work? Why are paleo-ers not able to feel sick? But once we eat bad food we start feeling sick? Very interesting.

Hm, this is kind of complicated.  I'll see if I can make it understandable.

The first thing to know is that most of the symptoms people get when they are sick are not from the actual infection itself.  Rather, they are from the body's immune response to the infection.  Antibodies and one type of white blood cell kills off infected cells, another type of white blood cell - macrophages - engulf and consume the dead cells.  Extra mucus is generated to prevent any new germs from reaching and infecting live cells, and to carry detritus out of the body, leading to congestion and runny noses.  Coughs are an attempt by the body to expel bacteria from the air passages before they can become too much of a problem.

The body has been highly optimized to deal with infections.  As a result, on the diet the body is designed for - a paleo diet - the symptoms are mild.  The immune system works efficiently, and it doesn't take a lot of mucus, coughing, and sneezing to stay healthy.  From the standpoint of a paleolithic human, this makes sense - one needs to fight off the cold, but one also needs to stay fit enough to face down other predators if needed, even when one has a cold.  At most it might be beneficial to feel a bit tired or sleepy so as to know to take it easy for a few days.

Unfortunately, neolithic foods interfere with this optimization.  For example, glucose interferes with the efficiency of macrophages, by displacing the vitamin C that macrophages need to function properly.  For reasons such as that, eating a lot of carbohydrates, which are in part broken down into glucose in the digestive tract, seems to interfere with immune system efficiency.  With a less efficient immune system, infections make it farther before they are stopped, and the body then needs to step up the immune response beyond what it would need to be on a paleo diet.  The result is the stronger and more debilitating symptoms that the general population has when they get sick.

end of 5th week - not so well

From the time I weighed myself (3 minutes ago) and now, I cant remember whether I gained .6 or lost .4... numbers were never my thing. But considering that I have cheated lots this week by drinking lots 2 days and eating out... either would be expected. (More the gain though). Kind of bummed but yes... I'll do better this week. (Dejavu?)

6.13.2011

results of week 4 - unhappy

Didnt lose a single ounce this week, which makes me pretty sad.

Things I did differently.
Only walked once (yeah I had a lot going on!!)
Tried to eat much more than usual, no skipping meals. (reached 1000 cal at least a day)
Had an apple for the first time since starting with unsalted peanut butter.

Now, all of those above could be a factor... but to try and lose next week, I am going to change it all.
No more fruits for sure, go back to how I was eating (just making sure I dont feel ill), and walking or weights as much as possible.

Some meals I made last week that I didnt upload.

ground pork with spinach, onions and zucchini

apple with unsalted peanut butter

pot roast

egg with green onions and bacon

Day 24

This is what I'm having for lunch. El Pollo chicken salad with no cheese and no dressing. I tried avoiding the corn and tortilla strips... Now my tongue is tingly... slight headache. Maybe it was the green acovado dressing (had half of it)? I finished all the chicken and 1/2 of the salad, too full to continue.

from their website
salad: 233 cal, 8g fat, 3g sat fat, 18g carb, 5g fiber, 26g protein
dressing:70 cal, 5g fat, 1g sat fat, 6g carb, 1g protein

K that may have been too much carb.

Week 3 - 1 lb loss

I really need to get the scale that measures fat... well... I need a scale PERIOD. I weigh myself at work every monday to see the results. This time I only lost 1 lb again. Kind of feeling sad but a pound is a pound, as long as its not a gain. I wasnt feeling too well, fatigue, body ache, so I did very little on the treadmill. Maybe that's why... Today I feel better, a little more energy and no more body aches.I am thinking it is because I forced myself to eat some bacon and pork (thats all) last night for dinner. I have been calculating my intake and the last 3 days has been 500-600... even though I feel I was eating as much as possible, but it was only 2 meals a day.

I need to try and incorporate at least 3 meals a day some how. (If thats the reason why I have been feeling so crappy...)

But my clothes feel much better on me, I am no longer busting out of my pants. :)

Some of the dishes I tried over the weekend.
Kelp chips... omgggg are they my fav thing now... but is too much... too much? Olive oil, pepper, garlic seasoning (ms. dash?), lemon. In the oven for 12 min and you get this thing that tastes like a veggie seaweed... yumm...

Fridays dinner, bought chicken rotisserie and had some with boiled spinach + bacon. I didnt eat much as pictured.
(Friday overall intake:  550~600 cal, 28g carb, 5g fiber, 44g protein.)

Saturday I made egg cupcakes!!! Heard about it through Sophia :) I couldnt find my food processor so I just blended everything in a blender (even the egg LOL lazy!!!) turned out VERY yummy... I made 9 and ate 4.5 of it. With my kale chips :)

(Saturday intake: 750~800 cal, 29g carb, 11g fiber, 85g protein)

Dinner, found a recipe online for pork chops and attempted that. Didnt like it very much lol. Probably why I only ate one of the pictured below.

Sunday I made an omelet with left overs that I had.  3 eggs, ham, 3 bacon strips, zucchini, green onions, green peppers... I think thats it? Made a huge pancake thing and split in half. I could have probably ate the whole pancake... but I decided to share. (awwwwwwwwwww...)

(Sunday intake: 550~600 cal, 24g carb, 0 fiber (really??), 28g protein)

In between the day I had some sardines, and grapefruit... My first fruit since I started paleo.... is that ok? I dont know!

I wasnt feeling well at all, body ache and fatigue... didnt know what to do so I decided to make warm up my left over below minus the veggies with bacon... After an hour I felt well enough to get on the treadmill. Walked like a granny for 30 min. ~100 cal).

Side note, had a bun less six dollar burger... trying to incorporate beef into my diet... and it didnt go so well. I didnt feel good after consuming.. so no more of that.

6.02.2011

Day 18 - a little tired

Things have been very busy around me... and I do not do well in these situations.
I need to start being a little more organized so that I stop feeling so overwhelmed.
And when I'm overwhelmed,  I don't want to do a single thing...  -_-

I have a little time today so I'm blogging. Then need to reply to a bunch of emails... then get to work lol.
My energy level has gone down, I am not sure why? I have been eating more calories than before but my energy spike.... is no more :( I am starting to feel a little hungry and tired, not how I was on the first two weeks. Maybe I need to intake more protein or something?

For lunch yesterday I had my first real burger (no buns). It was pretty good but did not sit well with my stomach, as I always feel after I eat a little beef. Had indigestion, wasnt feeling too well, and felt bleh.

The last two nights I have been having chinese hot pot. (not shabu shabu, please dont mistaken it for shabu shabu. Chinese hot pot uses flavored broth!)  The first night I had the house special, pictured below. It is basically a seafood broth and I didnt like it at all. Generally because it tasted like saute... and I hate that stuff. Second day I had the kelp broth which was very good. I felt just a little weird after but I thought it was ok since it was just broth??  No rice, no glass noodles, no tofu, but still good.

No exercise, cal intake was over 1000. I cant count the rest because the hot pot was so mysterious.

Day 17

Lunch - had a salmon thing at a teriyaki place at the mall. This place is very very good... My memory is gone and I cannot remember the name of this place. I asked for salmon with no sauce, but of course it is glazed in it. I tried to wipe off as much as I can... felt a little funky after but the food was really good. Replaced rice for more veggies.

5.31.2011

End of week 2

Just weighed myself and not very happy with what I saw... but I only have myself to blame for the 1lb loss. I didnt walk nearly as much as I did the first week due to fatigue and the dang headache!!! I stubbed my toe really bad yesterday and that didnt help either.

Week one: 1000cal or lower a day. 1 hr walking + sit ups, 5x week. 3 lb loss
Week two: 500-1100 cal a day. 30 min walk, 2x week. 1 lbs.

When my toe heals I'm going to try and walk 5x a week to see if I can lose a little more than 1 a week. Just as a test run.

Day 14 meal
Breakfast: One egg, one bacon

Lunch: First time at Acapulco and enjoyed it every much. Chicken taco (didnt eat the tortilla. After the meal the waiter asked, YOURE NOT EATING THE TORTILLAS???? as if it was a sin... it probably is.... and I am sorry. Didnt touch the chips, no beans, just extra veggies. MMM this was good!!)

Dinner- I made Buffalo beef patties with sauteed onions and mushrooms, topped with my fav, bacon!!!
Jerry liked this a lot but for me, it was a bit too rich. I'd prefer pork or turkey meat to buffalo. :P

No exercise because I stubbed my dang toe!!

5.29.2011

Day 14: headache... from what? :(

Suffering from a headache right now. :( It's been about 5 hours, took an advil gel cap an hour ago and it still hasnt helped me any. I wonder what caused it? Or is it just one of my usual headaches?

Meals from today:
No breakfast
Lunch, BBQ Beef bowl from a japanese place. No rice, just veggie. I didnt know that they were going to put sauce on it... Havent had beef in a long time so I guess it is a good introduction to my tummy. (very little beef as you can see lol)

Dessert - tried a black berry cobbler recipe found online. Had a bite and it was ok. I'm probably still used to the sweet versions I had before.

After this, I was not feeling well. Headache started a little after lunch. Still feeling full and with a bad headache, I didn't want to eat... but knew I had to eat.

Dinner - microwaved salmon, cooked some bacon and a side of broccoli. Bacon was really the only reason why I ate lol. I basically had a bite of it with the other stuff and was able to finish the plate.

Still my calories are still low...
Total for today 655 cal , 20g carb, 8g fiber, 46g protein

Day 13 meals
Lunch Beeman's BBQ. Chicken with no teriyaki, veggie no rice. This thing was pretty good considering there are no sauces on it. Chicken was a bit dry but I like it that way lol.

Dinner - left over bacon wrapped chicken

Snack - dark almonds

Total for day 13 - 730cal, 29 g carb, 9g fiber, 71g protein

5.28.2011

Day 12 - weekends are nice but very hard to paleo

Sitting at home there are so many temptations. Coupons for dinners, commercials for new products, candy and treats laying around (need to throw out), when I'm bored I would always just munch. I am no longer having cravings but still have bad thoughts when I see stuff laying around. My will power for carbs is much better than I thought it would be but my sweet tooth... not so much. Very hard to control.

Fridays meals
Beakfast - woke up full so I only had one egg and one bacon
Lunch - went to Chili's and didnt want the fajita... so I ordered their grilled chicken sanwich with no bread, no fries, just veggies. The broccoli was SUPER buttery so I didnt eat it and everything else was salty so I didnt finish it. It is so weird to notice these things because before paleo, everything tasted fine to me. I guess I am more sensitive to it because I haven't been incorporating these things to my diet anymore.

Dinner - Tried a new recipe I found. Bacon wrapped chicken stuffed with sun dried tomatos. It turned out VERY GOOD!! yum yum yum!
(wash the chicken, open it up but not all the way, stuff it with ground pepper and chopped up sun dried tomatos. wrap it with chicken as if you are closing up the opening, and add toothpicks to keep it down if necessary. stove at 400, 3 min., broil for about 5 min or until crispy.)

Had some almonds for snacks :)

Total calorie intake for friday was about 1100, 75 g carb, 12g fiber, 75g protein. (too much carb?)

I have been feeling very good. No woosy, dizzy spells, not hungry, no cravings.

I have my first doc appt on tuesday so I will see what my doc says about my new lifestyle. :)

5.26.2011

Paleo 11 - What can I eat?

I eat out quite a lot due to work stress = not wanting to be at work. Including the lunch and occasional dinners, I eat out about 7 times a week. Work lunch is fine since we usually end up at the same places and they have paleo friendly dishes, but when it comes to dinner, that becomes the problem.

Yesterday's meal
BREAKFAST: 2 eggs and bacon (190cal)
LUNCH: Geezers Santa Fe Chicken Salad - NO CORN. Found out I can have Corn LOL! (~390 cal)
(The pic was taken after I started eating, sorry)

DINNER: Mongolian BBQ. Can I have this? I had a bowl of chicken and pork, another bowl of cabbage, broccoli, green onions, onions, cilantro and garlic. I got greedy and added more to my meat bowl hehe. Its protein and veggies BUT when the cook was cooking it, he added mysterious sauce at the very end and I was not very happy. I guess it was my own fault for not telling him in the first place. (Didnt know I needed to rotate it.)

where did the Brown stuff come from? hm?
what I put on my plate OINK OINK

Since we had dinner pretty late and I needed to watch my Idol finale, I decided to skip on my walking. (Hard to hear on my treadmill and I cant walk right after I eat.) I dont know how skipping walking sessions will affect my paleo diet, hopefully not too much.

Total consumption: ~1046 cal, 47g fat, 28g carb, 9g fiber

Today I am feeling pretty good. No need for coffee just yet. Having a little bit of heart burn though... maybe because of the dang sauce? (Blame it on the sauce, yeah!)

5.25.2011

Paleo 10.1 - depression and headaches

I wanted to add that I've been reading up on success stories in the forums and found that many people who had a history of migraines/headaches and depression have seen drastic changes after migrating to Paleo. This is great news for me. I wonder if it will also help with my social anxiety?

Paleo Day 10: Lesson learned, do not skip meals

Yesterday was an eye opener.

6:40am - I had my 2 whole eggs with uncured bacon in the morning, felt full when lunch time came and kept in mind what the others were telling me. "You don't have to eat if you don't feel hungry."

3:30pm - still not hungry and driving home from home I started feeling weird. Like sleepy and couldnt concentrate on driving. It started getting worse and worse and so I thought it was because I haven't eaten?

and around 4:00pm, I had to stop and get something to eat. Drove by Carl's and got the chicken sandwich wrapped in lettuce. Felt much better after I ate, as if nothing was wrong. HMMM... ???? Is this normal??

6:00pm dinner - I wasnt hungry because I had just ate but here we go, at a chinese restaurant again. Had lots of chinese veggies and a pork chop (no breading).

Exercise - I didnt feel tired at all so I was on my treadmill watching American Idol for 60 min. 3 miles. Cal burned 250 (supposidly)
Did 40 sit ups x5. I guess I am getting stronger :)

5.24.2011

Paleo Day 9: Extra support makes the difference!

I recently joined a forum filled with people who are living the Paleolithic way, to help me with my journey. They are so helpful and I've jotted down a few good pointers and recipes from there. :) (happy camper). The biggest issue is... "You're not eating enough calories!", "stop counting calories!", "eat more!", "eat your eggs!" lol. I'll try my best but it is so hard when I was raised with very little protein in my diet. Even a small portion makes me feel full. I'll try my best though.

Today for breakfast I made TWO eggs and bacon. "If I am making bacon, do I still need Butter? Or is the grease enough?" Is my question of the day. As my mom used to say, "Just pretend like you're a fool, try it and see if it works." So I'm doing it ma!!!

Oh I love bacon.

So recap of yesterday.
Day 8

BREAKFAST: 1 yolk + 2 eggs in butter
LUNCH: Olive Garden chicken spiedini with extra veggie instead of potato

Dinner: My favorite japanese izakaya, Oto Oto. I thought it would be good for me since it is basically grilled meat on a stick but later that night, I wasnt feeling too great.

Seared Mackerel

stewed pork

Skewered pork, bacon wrapped zucchini

Below are what was ordered but I did not eat.
I do not eat raw fish (bad japanese bad!) or beef.

Chirashi Bowl

Beef Tataki (rare beef over salad)

Calorie count was... (I'm not suppose to count but...) over 1000! :)

5.23.2011

Paleo Day 6 - 8 : feeling awful... then time for weigh in...

Today is my 6th day on Paleo, I guess it would be the 4th as a strictly Paleo since I cheated and have a little carb on the first couple of days.

The book that was recommended to me by Sophia came in the mail yesterday. After reading Storm, I will start on it. :)

Wanted to share with you my little discovery (with the help of Russ). If you read my previous post, I have been feeling weak and had no desire to walk again yesterday. I was going to have dinner on my own so I decided to pick up El Pollo Loco. (With great difficulty because I was VERY tempted to try their sweet potato fries. I am so bad with temptations that I usually just avoid getting near these places. Like a crack whore at a crack house...) I ordered their 2 piece combo, breast and wing, 2 sides of vegetables, no tortillas (=no temptations) and no sweet potato fries (told myself that would be my reward after a month!).

Got home and finished almost all of it with some pico de gallo salsa. The whole thing was 390 cal. After a while I had a burst of energy. It was very weird... I got up and went on the treadmill without once feeling tired. I was on the machine for a little over an hour, upped my speed as much as I felt comfortable. The machine said I did 270 cal worth. Was able to do 40 sit ups at a time rather than my usualy 30. I did about 120 in total.

After my little work out, my cravings came back... Didn't know what to do so I had a few bites of my watermelon and walla! I was a happy camper once again.

Total calories consumed on friday, ~953 cal. 61 g carb. 15g fiber. 13 sugar.
I am still unsure what to do with these numbers... I really need to jot down what the average consumption is for Paleo-ers....

Day 6. - cravings, cravings, cravings

eeek...
7:00 am woke up full but wanting something sweet.
Drink some water, make some breakfast... I told myself.
10:00 am With two strips of bacon chopped (no nitrates) and red onions, 2 egg whites. (Worried about cholesterol) I am still full and it is almost 4:00... but I am still having craving issues. I read about 10 different forums in hopes that someone will have a secret ice cream recipe or something to share... but no luck. And honestly, I do not want to ruin my new start because of a stupid craving. Definitely not during my first two weeks! No fruits, no chocolate, no dairy, no carbs, for now.

5:30 pm - dinner was pretty bad. Church's chicken (AH!!) looked at the nutritional info and saw that the breast had the lowest calories (300~) and lowest fat content... so I had a breast. 30 min later I started feeling funky. A few minutes later, I was nauseated, and it all came out.  I guess this is what they were warning me about... though it has only been 6 days, my body is already used to the better foods.

Squeezed in 30 minutes of walking for 170 cal

10:00 pm - had wine while playing poker

Total consumed Day 6: 651 cal, 49g carb, 6g fiber, 40 g protein

Day 7: not feeling so great but better

I woke up late feeling weird, as if I drank too much (which I didnt, I promise!)
Lunch: We went to a chinese cafe for lunch... I just ordered the most simple thing I could find, salmon with pork chops and chinese broccoli on the side. Who knew the pork chops would be fried?? Had the whole salmon and 1/5 of the scraped off pork chops. (542 cal)

Dinner: I made ground turkey with green peppers, onions, and cilantro. After I cut up the peppers, I realized I should have made meat stuffed peppers... since I had nothing to replace rice with. I should have bought some cabbage to wrap it with... Had that with left over chinese broccoli and it wasnt so bad. (225 cal)

Exercise: I had loads of energy for some reason. did 70 min for 352 cal.

Total for Day 7 - 802 cal, 23g carbs, 5g fiber, 77g protein

Note: skin has been dry and scabs are not healing as well. I need to drink more water and need to restart taking multivitamins.

Day 8 aka ONE WEEK!: The scary weigh in...

I didn't want to but I did... weighed myself at work.
*drum roll please*
Lost 3 lbs... seriously??? WOW I had no idea I could do it... I was hoping for 1 lb... but 3, I weighed myself three times just to make sure. I am so motivated, more than ever.

5.20.2011

Paleo Day 5 - happy friday!

Happy Friday everybody!

My Friday is great expect for the fact that I feel like my body's battery is at 10%. My gas light would be flashing if I was a car. I am up and awake thank to my 1/4 cup of coffee (ever since I replaced my fruit smoothies for coffee 4 weeks ago, I have been very sensitive to caffeine. now that I do not have the natural sugar to keep me energized... I need my coffee in the morning) but my body is drained. It is a very strange feeling and according to the forums online, it is a common feeling you get when you start off the Paleo diet. It is a strange feeling... I am not sleepy or tired, just kind of a floaty weird feeling. I am trying to figure out ways to increase the calorie intake or some other way to energize me without carbs or sugar.

I have to expect another week or two of this so I am trying very hard to keep it together. I am probably having mega carb withdraws.
Last night for dinner I tried a Paleo recipe that I found. Basically contains pork chops, onions and apples. It was pretty tasty but I'd like to try it with thin slices of pork next time. That along with my left over broccoli salad was a perfect size.

Dinner Calories around 400 - 500
with the Almonds, I consumed roughly 930 - 1000 calories yesterday. Around 70g of carbs.
I added no exercise because of my floaty weak feeling. I just sat and relaxed, watched American Idol. (Go Scotty and Lauren!!!)

Day 5
Today I woke up full again. Weak feeling still.
I bought new eggs that had lower amounts of cholesterol and had 1 yolk + 2 egg whites.  (~90 cal)
For lunch, Marie Calendars salad bar again. Mixed greens, corn, tomato, onions, bacon bits, ground meat, with tomato basil dressing. I should be doing the ranch thing but I just cant do it!!! (~350cal)

I have no idea what I will have tonight for dinner. There is nothing left and I have no plans with anyone. Kind of a scary thought but I should go to the market before my cravings hit!

5.19.2011

Paleo Day 4

Cravings? What cravings? Oh... THOSE cravings... yes, is it the carb withdraw that I heard so much about? Slight headache (which is normal for me but doesn't hurt as bad as usual?), fighting a sweet tooth, but still pretty full.

For dinner yesterday we went to Boiling Point. Boiling Point, for those of you who have never been, is a place where they serve you individual pots of Chinese Hot Pot above a flame. For those of you who dont know what hot pot is... it is basically vegetables and meat in hot flavored soup. If you still have no clue, please ask my BFF Google.

Going to Boiling Point was the first struggle I had so far. It is hard to categorize some of the ingredients in Chinese food when I don't even know what I am eating. I knew I couldn't eat rice, but how about glass noodle? It is not made of flour... what the heck is it made out of??? I wasn't sure so I only ate a couple of bites. maybe 1/10 of a cup. I knew I could not eat Tofu because it is made of soy, so that mean no to bean curd, which is my favorite. I ate all of the pork, egg whites and kimchi (I chose the Kimchi Pot) and that was it. Pretty satisfying but with rice it would have been much more fun.

Exercise for Day 3 consisted of 77 minutes of brisk walking and briefly jogging while watching American Idol. The machine said I burned about 275 cal. Followed that with some sit ups but could never do more than 30 at a time. x2.5 = 100.

Total calories consumed yesterday was approximately 985. Total carb approximately 29g

- - - - - - - - - - - -
Day 4
This morning I woke up feeling full so I had one egg.
Had some cravings so I ate a little more than a handful of almonds.
Wasnt sure what I was going to do for lunch but a coworker and I went to a teriyaki spot called WaBa Grill that I've never been to. It says no MSG + etc so why not. I am not a fan of teriyaki... but I didn't know what else to eat so I tried the chicken teriyaki with no rice, just vegetables. They charged me a few cents extra, WHATEVER!!! The whole thing was surprisingly good... I think I like the teriyaki with vegetables MUCH better than with rice! Finished 3/4 of it and was a happy camper.

Plan for tonight is to make some pork chops paleo style then walking while American Idol is on. Please wish me luck.  :)

*** still dont know if this is all working. too soon to tell? i am in denial and have not weighed myself for months!

5.18.2011

Paleo day 3

Hello to my non existing readers! This is my third day of Paleo and I must say I am feeling pretty good (and full!). I woke up full and forced my egg down... but just learned from Dr. Sophia that I can skip meals if I am not hungry... all these new techniques are so different from what I have doing for the last decade. I am working on this with an open mind and open heart. :)

Day Two Meal
BREAKFAST: 2 egg whites 1 yolk in butter (~100cal)
(none of the usually starving feeling)
LUNCH: Chili's Chicken Fajita - no rice, no beans, no avocado, no cheese. (~360 with the goods)
(You should eat avocado and cheese but I personally hate the stuff)
*I said no thank you to the chips + salsa, and no tortillas.. I was tempted. Are you kidding me??
(no feeling of hunger)
DINNER: left over 4 oz Salmon grilled with butter, garlic powder and parsley(~342cal)
made myself the souplantation broccoli salad with broccoli, light mayo with no carb or nut oil?, bacon, onions, apple cider vinegar.

SNACKS: few pieces of almonds for (~8cal each)

EXERCISE: Brisk walking - short jog for 60 min and some sit ups. According to the machine I did 245 cal worth.

Day 3:
(I woke up full!!! As if I woke up and walked to the fridge to pig out...) (uh... I hope I didn't!!)
BREAKFAST: 2 egg whites 1 yolk in butter (~100cal)
(STUFFED)
LUNCH: Geezer's Santa Fe Chicken Salad, no cheese, no avocado, no tortilla chips (SADx99). (~350cal)
DINNER: still unsure about dinner but will update on that tomorrow.

Dr. Sophia did let me know that my calorie intake is too low but I am not sure how to increase it. This is probably what I ate prior to starting but with candy and lots more carbs. I feel so much more full and for a longer period. I am pretty happy with how I feel because so far, I am not having any cravings (though so much temptation!!!) and am not having feelings of starvation that I constantly feel. So far, no headaches or dizzy spells so far so I am going to keep going.

Paleo diet

My story in a nut shell.

  • I have never been ultra skinny so I called myself big boned.
  • Working in a corporate environment, my weight has been steadily increasing.
  • Tried the diets, pills, gyms, p90x and nothing has ever helped me, not even a single pound of weight loss.
  • The only thing that has ever worked for me was Weight Watchers, helping me lose about 13 pounds and it took almost a year. After stopping due to $$ situations and surgery, I am almost back to square one.

*a disclaimer, I THINK I have been eating an ok diet... one piece of eggo in the AM, salad of sandwich for lunch (restaurant), then dinner would be a small portion of rice, vegetables and some kind of a protein that I make. This is how it has always been for health reasons, not really for losing weight.

Recently tried replacing breakfast with smoothies made with light soy milk, greek yogurt and fresh berries... 4 weeks and I have been less tired and feeling good but my clothes have been feeling tighter and tighter. Hmm...

Something I stumbled upon was the Paleo diet. I have never been able to eat a strict diet... but this seems like something I can follow and adjust my life around. (with some edits of course!!)

I am only sharing my experiences, not really trying to teach anything to anyone, but hoping I can get some feedback. (Because I still do not know much about what I am doing.) I do have a great source who has been helping me and I'd like to thank Sophia. YOU RULE!!!!

Day one:
BREAKFAST: 2 egg whites 1 yolk in butter (~100cal)
(none of the usually starving feeling)
LUNCH: Marie Calendars Salad Bar. (160~180 cal)
Field greens, ground meat, egg whites, onions, corn with tomato basil dressing.
*according to Sophia I need to try a different dressing like ranch. But I hate ranch
** i said no to the garlic bread and corn bread... now that was TOUGH!!!
(no feeling of hunger)
DINNER: 6 oz Salmon grilled with butter, garlic powder and parsley and side of mixed veggies (~342cal)
SNACKS: few pieces of almonds for (~8cal each ~300cal)
skinny cow ice cream - ok i cheated but i threw the rest out this AM!!! (~100cal)

EXERCISE: Brisk walking for 40 min and some sit ups. According to the machine I did 140cal worth.

According to my BFF "Lost it" APP (on my iPhone that calculates all the calories for me), I consumed about 1001 cal yesterday and worked off 140 of it.

Today may be harder since I am not sure where I am going for lunch. You may wonder why I dont bring my lunch to work... I had bigger issues to worry about and I really need to get out.
