cheating = bad

Ok I learned my lesson. No more fruits, dairy, no mixed drinks, limit on hard liquor. Dump all bad foods from that house.

Update on foods I made.
meat loaf
(grass fed beef, egg, almond flour, flax seed, cilantro, mushrooms, onions, seasoning)

fajita
(chicken, onions, red peppers, coated and marinated in lemon, lime, parsley, cilantro,  jalapeno, seasoning)

Why I am still trying...

Benefits that I have read and experienced outweighs my desire to quit and chow down on a big piece of sourdough baguette...

Experience
- no more of the "starving" feeling
- my sweet tooth has become very minimal. I am now able to say no to sweets laying around!
- clothes are fitting better even though my lbs have not decreased for a while
- not feeling cold all of the time

Read
- you do not experience the symptoms of being sick. Meaning, you are sick but you dont know it. Explanation below.
- flat abs without a single sit up. (mysterious! but great sounding)
- better cholesterol and blood pressure. (I have no problems here but it's always a good thing to keep them low)

I have been trying to eat much better this week. Making my food and bringing it to lunch. Go me!!!
Yesterday I did go to El Pollo and got a $1 Al Carbon Taco and had the inside of it. As I was having the spoon full... I thought to myself.... hmm... this is so dang good and simple... can I make this at home??? So the project began.

Went to the market and picked up whatever I thought was in the Al Carbon... Chicken, cilantro, onions, lime, and I added green peppers and jalapeno peppers. The end result was very good... I topped them off on cabbage and it was yummy!!! Bit spicy but still very good. I was very happy with it and gave myself a gold star.

Not being sick explanation by Warren Dew:

My question: How does this not feeling sick but being sick thing work? Why are paleo-ers not able to feel sick? But once we eat bad food we start feeling sick? Very interesting.

Hm, this is kind of complicated.  I'll see if I can make it understandable.

The first thing to know is that most of the symptoms people get when they are sick are not from the actual infection itself.  Rather, they are from the body's immune response to the infection.  Antibodies and one type of white blood cell kills off infected cells, another type of white blood cell - macrophages - engulf and consume the dead cells.  Extra mucus is generated to prevent any new germs from reaching and infecting live cells, and to carry detritus out of the body, leading to congestion and runny noses.  Coughs are an attempt by the body to expel bacteria from the air passages before they can become too much of a problem.

The body has been highly optimized to deal with infections.  As a result, on the diet the body is designed for - a paleo diet - the symptoms are mild.  The immune system works efficiently, and it doesn't take a lot of mucus, coughing, and sneezing to stay healthy.  From the standpoint of a paleolithic human, this makes sense - one needs to fight off the cold, but one also needs to stay fit enough to face down other predators if needed, even when one has a cold.  At most it might be beneficial to feel a bit tired or sleepy so as to know to take it easy for a few days.

Unfortunately, neolithic foods interfere with this optimization.  For example, glucose interferes with the efficiency of macrophages, by displacing the vitamin C that macrophages need to function properly.  For reasons such as that, eating a lot of carbohydrates, which are in part broken down into glucose in the digestive tract, seems to interfere with immune system efficiency.  With a less efficient immune system, infections make it farther before they are stopped, and the body then needs to step up the immune response beyond what it would need to be on a paleo diet.  The result is the stronger and more debilitating symptoms that the general population has when they get sick.

end of 5th week - not so well

From the time I weighed myself (3 minutes ago) and now, I cant remember whether I gained .6 or lost .4... numbers were never my thing. But considering that I have cheated lots this week by drinking lots 2 days and eating out... either would be expected. (More the gain though). Kind of bummed but yes... I'll do better this week. (Dejavu?)

results of week 4 - unhappy

Didnt lose a single ounce this week, which makes me pretty sad.

Things I did differently.
Only walked once (yeah I had a lot going on!!)
Tried to eat much more than usual, no skipping meals. (reached 1000 cal at least a day)
Had an apple for the first time since starting with unsalted peanut butter.

Now, all of those above could be a factor... but to try and lose next week, I am going to change it all.
No more fruits for sure, go back to how I was eating (just making sure I dont feel ill), and walking or weights as much as possible.

Some meals I made last week that I didnt upload.

ground pork with spinach, onions and zucchini

apple with unsalted peanut butter

pot roast

egg with green onions and bacon

Day 24

This is what I'm having for lunch. El Pollo chicken salad with no cheese and no dressing. I tried avoiding the corn and tortilla strips... Now my tongue is tingly... slight headache. Maybe it was the green acovado dressing (had half of it)? I finished all the chicken and 1/2 of the salad, too full to continue.

from their website
salad: 233 cal, 8g fat, 3g sat fat, 18g carb, 5g fiber, 26g protein
dressing:70 cal, 5g fat, 1g sat fat, 6g carb, 1g protein

K that may have been too much carb.

Week 3 - 1 lb loss

I really need to get the scale that measures fat... well... I need a scale PERIOD. I weigh myself at work every monday to see the results. This time I only lost 1 lb again. Kind of feeling sad but a pound is a pound, as long as its not a gain. I wasnt feeling too well, fatigue, body ache, so I did very little on the treadmill. Maybe that's why... Today I feel better, a little more energy and no more body aches.I am thinking it is because I forced myself to eat some bacon and pork (thats all) last night for dinner. I have been calculating my intake and the last 3 days has been 500-600... even though I feel I was eating as much as possible, but it was only 2 meals a day.

I need to try and incorporate at least 3 meals a day some how. (If thats the reason why I have been feeling so crappy...)

But my clothes feel much better on me, I am no longer busting out of my pants. :)

Some of the dishes I tried over the weekend.
Kelp chips... omgggg are they my fav thing now... but is too much... too much? Olive oil, pepper, garlic seasoning (ms. dash?), lemon. In the oven for 12 min and you get this thing that tastes like a veggie seaweed... yumm...

Fridays dinner, bought chicken rotisserie and had some with boiled spinach + bacon. I didnt eat much as pictured.
(Friday overall intake:  550~600 cal, 28g carb, 5g fiber, 44g protein.)

Saturday I made egg cupcakes!!! Heard about it through Sophia :) I couldnt find my food processor so I just blended everything in a blender (even the egg LOL lazy!!!) turned out VERY yummy... I made 9 and ate 4.5 of it. With my kale chips :)

(Saturday intake: 750~800 cal, 29g carb, 11g fiber, 85g protein)

Dinner, found a recipe online for pork chops and attempted that. Didnt like it very much lol. Probably why I only ate one of the pictured below.

Sunday I made an omelet with left overs that I had.  3 eggs, ham, 3 bacon strips, zucchini, green onions, green peppers... I think thats it? Made a huge pancake thing and split in half. I could have probably ate the whole pancake... but I decided to share. (awwwwwwwwwww...)

(Sunday intake: 550~600 cal, 24g carb, 0 fiber (really??), 28g protein)

In between the day I had some sardines, and grapefruit... My first fruit since I started paleo.... is that ok? I dont know!

I wasnt feeling well at all, body ache and fatigue... didnt know what to do so I decided to make warm up my left over below minus the veggies with bacon... After an hour I felt well enough to get on the treadmill. Walked like a granny for 30 min. ~100 cal).

Side note, had a bun less six dollar burger... trying to incorporate beef into my diet... and it didnt go so well. I didnt feel good after consuming.. so no more of that.
